About
I am Dimitrios Alivanistos, PhD, though most people call me Dimitris. I am a Senior Data Scientist at Elsevier working on Life Sciences, with a research background in artificial intelligence, knowledge graphs, and hypothesis generation.
I like AI systems that make scientific work more legible: systems that can connect evidence, represent uncertainty, surface promising directions, and help researchers ask better questions. My PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam explored knowledge graphs and transformers for accelerating scientific discovery in the era of AI.
Before that, and alongside it, I worked across life sciences, search engines, and transportation engineering. That mix still shapes how I think: research ideas should be ambitious, but the tools around them should be practical enough to survive contact with real data and real users.

Other things Dimitris is up to
Outside research and data science, music keeps finding its way back in. After ten years in Amsterdam, I recently played my first live set here, singing and playing guitar. A small thing in the grand scheme, maybe, but a very good one.
